The “Break The Chains Of Youth Incarceration” is a youth event designed to teach teenagers age 12 – 19 about the effects of their actions which could lead to incarceration. The goal is to educate young people about the life choices they make that could ultimately ruin their lives.
The event utilizes real life scenarios such as a routine traffic stop that leads to a court appearance before a judge, resulting in incarceration into the state penitentiary. The youth get an opportunity to role play as police officers, judges, juries, and correctional officers, all in an attempt to expose them to the negative effects of the criminal justice system. We also use individuals that have experienced incarceration to provide their first hand testimonies about their time in the system. This event is led by the “Reach Out Program” in conjunction with the Young Men Of Valor program and The Clergy Table.
